R100 000 each for two High Schools

The ICU gives, through the intervention of SOAPkidz

By Karen Hauptfleisch

08h00: I received a phone call from Chris Dykes, one of our SOAPkidz volunteers. Do you know of two schools that can use R100 000 each? he asks.

What a question? Since we work with vulnerable children, most of the schools we work with are in dire need of funds. I start making phone calls. According to Gaelene Risk, the ICU wants to donate R100 000 to two needy schools.

10h00: I phone Gaelene Risk with a list of primary schools in Pretoria. I then discover that they are looking for High Schools.

11h00: I phone Gaelene again, this time giving her the contact details of the Langehoven as well as Elandspoort School whose scholars have been involved with many SOAPkidz events.

14h00: I receive an e-mail from a teachers wife from Elandspoorts high school: My man het my nou-net gebel, die vrou van JHB het hom gebel en alles bevestig. Baie dankie dat jy aan ons gedink het om aan hulle voor te stel. Dit gaan vir ons van groot hulp wees. Einde April s my man fondse is n probleem. Hulle is baie opgewonde en sal ook nog vir jou dankie s.
