The Kruispaaie Outreach Group in conjunction with SOAPkidz hosted a fun nature excursion on the 26th March 2011 for 29 underprivileged and neglected children from Abraham Kriel and Stanza Bopape.
First stop on the excursion was Netso farm.
The kids were able to get up close to the cows and felt the softness of the day old chicken.
Yolandie gave some insight into the daily workings of a small scale farm.
The kids were treated to some fresh milk and yogurt produced on the farm
Then it was Koppie-Alleen for some mountain (Koppie) climbing, visiting the small caves and of course taking in the beautiful view from the top of the koppie.
Helen informed the kids about the unique history of the Koppie and showed them the different types of grass that grow around the koppie
Next was Bona Thaba where meeting and touching the horses had some kids on cloud 9. Each child then had a short horse ride.
Some kids were a bit scared but thanks to the volunteers that walked beside them their fears were easily overcome.
Nadine amused the group with her equestrian skills.
Then it was back to Lekkekry for a tractor ride, feeding the sheep & goats and cuddling the bunnies.
The rest of the afternoon the kids spend “relaxing” at the pool and on the slip a slide
The kids participated in the events with such enthusiasm and fascination, as they were surrounded by so much care and fun, one can just hope that it shifted something in their little psyches.
Too soon it was time to say goodbye. The kids were given a farewell parcel and seen off by the volunteers, some sad, but with hugs all round.
The day saw relationships formed and mindset changes of the volunteers and kids alike.
The enthusiasm and sweet nature displayed by the kids and caregivers from house Triblehorn and Groenewald was truly an inspiration to the volunteers.
Once again the Kruispaaie Outreach Group would like to thank every volunteer/ donor for you support. Without you this event would not have been possible. You are proof that together we make a difference.
